This paper discusses some fundamental problems of urban GIS and presents the author’s research activities. Limitations of current conceptual
logical
physical spatial data models in urban GIS are examined in the light of the authors’ research work including the development of an E C R conceptual data model—an extended network data model (logical model)
a special GIS tool of integrated management of raster and vector data
and description and representation of topological spatial relationship. Basic methods for the development of urban GIS spatial models are discussed. In addition
the research also involves collecting and updating urban spatial information from remotely sensed urban images
