The distribution model of solvent extractable monosaturated fatty acid from 25 representative samples was studied to evaluate their validity to differentiate depositional environments. Results show that H/L(∑C20 +/∑C20 -)
CPI (Carbon Preference Index) and Cmax are senitive parameters for depositional environmental differentiation
while CDI (Composition Diversity Index) is not so effective as the former three are. Normally
H/L value higher than 4.28 and CPI value lower than 4.2 is associated with an oxic peatification/coalification environment
while H/L value lower than 4.28 and CPI value higher than 4.2 is a reliable indication of fresh water
reductive depositional environment.
