Abstract
The compositiontunable Zn
x
Cd
1-x
S compounds were prepared by a facile and mild approach involved in polylol refluxing processes. Their structures were characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) analyses. The optical properties of Zn
x
Cd
1-x
S were studied by UVvis and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The results indicated that the Zn
x
Cd
1-x
S compounds exhibited as the wurtzite structure and their particle size decreased with the increase of Zn content. The compositiondependence optical properties were observed for all Zn
x
Cd
1-x
S compounds. Both the absorption and luminescence band systematically shifted from the longer wavelength for CdS to the shorter wavelength for ZnS.
